An antique Chinese Mongolian carpet. In the 17th-18th century style with a small, square grid organizing multiply stepped crosses in royal blue, rose, pale green, sand, ivory, and red. Some motives are tonally split or quartered. “Mongolian” is often applied to Chinese carpets, usually in squarish formats, too bold or too eccentric to fit into the usual categories. Ours is a particularly colorful example. The detail tones are applied randomly.
