An antique European Savonnerie carpet. The drawing of the field, including the two pale grey end panels, is in an illusionistic, contoured style. Urns overflowing with flowers frame an oval open, layered wreath medallion. Acanthus is everywhere: in the border scrolls, the end panels and in a reduced scale in the medallion itself. The style is Louis XVI, but the rug was woven around 1900.
