Antique Persia Mahal Carpet

An antique Persia Mahal carpet. The sand field of this very attractive west Persian village carpet displays a relatively small allover textile pattern of flowers, palmettes. rosettes and stems, detailed in teal, light blue, dark blue, brick, salmon, dark brown and ivory. The abrashed red to brick main border features elaborate rosettes, leaves and curving vine segments., more elaborate than on the usual Mahals. All-in-all, one of the better Mahals succeeding the earlier Sultanabad grade.
