Antique Persian Bidjar Oversize Carpet

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This urban piece presents a grey field supporting a six-column, modified small Harshang design of ecru “telephone-pole” palmettes, ragged palmettes, goosenecks, rosettes, leaves, and upright flowers. The continuous straw border, with palmette corner turns, displays acroteria and palmettes growing from a mirrored, double, faceted, stiff meander. The construction is stiff and heavy, with a resilient, densely packed pile.
