An antique Persian Karabagh carpet. From the ‘Bakshayesh’ antique period of Heriz district weaving, this wool warp long rug has a well-abrashed tan field displaying a rustic Herati design set within a charcoal main border of Azerbaijani double bent leaves and rosettes. In the middle 19th century Persian Heriz rugs and Russian Karabaghs shared the same designs and weave textures. This is not a carpet from c. 1920 in any case.
