Antique Persian Karabagh Carpet

An antique Persian Karabagh carpet. From the ‘Bakshayesh’ antique period of Heriz district weaving, this wool warp long rug has a well-abrashed tan field displaying a rustic Herati design set within a charcoal main border of Azerbaijani double bent leaves and rosettes. In the middle 19^th century Persian Heriz rugs and Russian Karabaghs shared the same designs and weave textures. This is not a carpet from c. 1920 in any case.
