Antique Persian Mahal Carpet

An antique Persian Mahal carpet. A bright white cotton central turtle-type palmette organizes the five pattern columns with their ‘fish’ leaves, tiny rosettes, cogwheels, and oblique straight lines.  Two other palmettes on the central axis are also knotted in white cotton. The brick red main border of this attractive west Persian large village carpet employs the ‘tangerine flower’ motif.
