Antique Persian Mahal Room Size Carpet

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The dark blue field displays an allover pattern of large cogwheel rosettes, smaller flame-edged rosettes, palmettes, and sickle leaves, all set within a trellis of forked vines. The ecru, sand, and bone tones stand out strongly against the dark field. A pale blue strip-style main border features flip-flop carnation and blossom pairs within a curling vinery meander and barbed leaves. An exceptional border.
