Antique Persian Malayer Gallery Carpet

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. A much-modified allover Herati pattern shows open diamonds, rosettes, thick bent leaves, rayed lozenges, and fringed squares, among other devices, on a bone field. The dark red strip-style main border presents a double rendition of the trapezoidal meander and pendant flower pattern. The minor borders show reversing fan palmettes, and a plain light camel-toned outer surround completes the composition.
