Antique Persian Malayer Gallery Carpet

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The pale blue field presents three parallel columns of the popular Herati pattern with open diamonds, sickle leaves, palmettes, and rosettes, enlivened by miscellaneous dots, squiggles, and small filler elements scattered informally throughout. An ecru strip-style border frames the piece, showing uniformly outward-facing turtle palmettes at the ends, while those along the sides alternate in direction.
