An antique Persian Mashad rug. Two facing birds, with averted heads, perch on tall multi-floral stems in the shaped niche field of this Khorassani city mat. The central “tree of life” (more like a garden shrub) erupts in irises and huge serrated leaves.  The rose spandrels define the unusual double horned apex of the niche.
