An antique Persian Sarouk Mohajeran rug from the early 20th century. Mohajeran village, in the Sarouk weaving area, is reputed to weave the best rugs of the Sarouk genre, usually, as here, with a deep blue ground with elaborately detailed detached floral elements. Note the dynamically curled corner motives. The buff border with its spider-like palmettes steps back to better emphasize the vigorous field design of this Persian rug. Actually a village rug, but oh, so urban in outlook.
