Antique Persian Sultanbad Carpet

An antique Persian Sultanbad carpet. The sapphire blue field displays large up and down complex palmette, open vine lozenges, arabesques and irises, all detailed in light rust, red, green, light blue and ivory-beige. The abrashed pale to light blue border of this very desirable antique west Persian rustic carpet shows a turtle palmette pattern on a smaller scale than the field motives. Probably from Ziegler.
