An antique Persian Tabriz Hagi Jalili carpet. The crimson ground has a bald cypress tree pattern in abrashed blues and lime greens reminiscent of the textiles of the British Arts and Crafts period happening at the same time as when this striking carpet was woven in NW Persia. The yellow tree stump arches and ivory details add to the extremely colorful effect. The discreet main palmette border abrashes straw to light yellow. This late 19th century, particularly beautifully executed carpet has both artistic power and technical finesse. It is a unique example from an accomplished workshop in the ‘Hajji Jalili’ period of Tabriz weaving.
