This outstanding mid-19th century Gyantse Tibetan carpet is probably the largest one piece Tibetan example known. The old ivory field shows an allover ivory Y/V lattice with rust decor. Rust border with fret sections alternating with flowers, ribbons, and precious objects. Some light spot wear, but quite good overall. Totally unique. Probably originally woven for a major Lassa temple or pale. Medium coarse Tibetan weave.
