Modern East Turkestan Khotan Room Size Carpet

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The beige field presents a relatively dispersed, unidirectional allover pattern of palmettes and ragged leaves, structured around an implicit central axis. An inner border displays coin triplets, while the outer stripe features slanted, stepped bars and related V motifs. Although the pattern draws on Persian sources, the Khotan interpretation is unmistakable. The palette is fairly light.
