Vintage Caucasian Karabagh Pictorial Rug

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation.

This red field rustic piece features three impossibly abstract horses galloping rightwards, supported by lesser horses, animals, palmettes, and flowers. The main dark brown/black border is decorated with polychrome chains of herringbone leaves at the sides and footed triangles at the ends. The outer cream border consists of Vees and quartered diamonds. A creative composition.
