A Vintage East Turkestan Khotan Pictorial rug. The open, light rust field of this virtually borderless, east Turkestan scatter displays a crane and deer on a sandy earthen mound, with a couchant sheep to the right. A pine tree rises to the right and extends its shelter to the left. The crane and deer are Chinese longevity symbols. Lightly drawn leafy corner ornaments with large, fan-shaped sketchy palmettes give a sense of closure to the composition.
