A vintage Persian Baluch Pictorial rug. Numbered 2537 on a dark blue base panel, this odd structure of a cream ground has a lower section fluted in orange, red, speckled grey, and ecru, and a bulbous top with giant leafy appendages. Flag-topped sky-blue herringbone trees and ‘Allah” inscriptions add to the mystery. The number may refer to the years following the founding of Iran by Cyrus.
