Mixed technique with a wool pile in symmetric knots; wool and cotton pattern yarns in sumak technique; and wool and cotton pattern yarns in slit tapestry technique. This opened-out pair of large khurdgins (saddlebags) features a pile “bumper” protecting a notched, rectangular sumak field with a lozenge pattern, framed by an off-white border. The backs are striped in red and black. A secondary field, also bordered in off-white, carries a hooked motif pattern. The warps are wool. The nomadic Bakhtiari are well known for producing technically complex saddlebags.
