A vintage Persian Gabbeh rug. There are no rules for Qashghai gabbehs, and this is no exception with a red field displaying three deeply nested stepped lozenge medallions, the larger central dark blue one with an inscription and date. The latter is repeated in a small lozenge below and reads 1371 or 1950. The mosaic zig-zag of the abrashed red main border swerves and grows erratically. This is a very attractive, totally tribal, nomadic South Persian rug.
