A vintage Persin Kashan Square rug. Against a flatwoven straw ground, the lavishly flowering plant and bird relief design is set within a stepped and pointed niche arch with flanking fluted columns. Accents appear in teal, light blue, red and ecru. The main border mixes flatweave and piles with an attractive deep navy. The souf technique goes back at least to the early 17th century and is a 20th century Kashan specialty.
