Vintage Persian Malayer Sampler Rug

A vintage Persian Malayer Sampler rug. This is a rare design sampler from the “Mahalayer” carpets, those room size Malayers in a Mahal pattern. Here is found the medium brown ground with various palmettes, rosettes and octagons, the ragged turtle palmette and acanthus main border, and the minor border pattern of rosettes and forked leaves. From this sampler, a whole carpet can be woven using a bit of imagination.
