Vintage Persian Souf Rug

A gold metallic flatwoven ground sets off a colorful bouquet of mixed colored roses and other flowers, along with a perching bulbul, all in knotted pile relief. The pattern tonality is bright and inviting. The Souf technique of a raised pile against a flatwoven metallic ground was first used extensively in the early 17^th century and has become a staple in recent finely knotted Persian rugs.
