Vintage Persian Tabriz Pictorial Rug

Wine, maidens, affluent Persians, garden settings. What could be more typical than a good, intimate carousal?  A blue sky with stylized clouds and a central weeping willow add character to this scene of relaxed pleasure. The inscription cartouches in the border of this Persian rug are poetic and refer to the pleasures of wine. Probably from the poet Hafez.
