The red ground of this vintage rug displays a heroine in ancient classical warrior garb, within a wide ivory border adorned with garden flowers, cypress trees, and blossoming bushes, along with a perching bird. The other, narrow borders are in diamond and quatrefoil patterns. The central image was adapted from a European print of Athena or another personage.
