Vintage Turkish Anatolian Pictorial Rug

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. The heavily abrashed dark brown ground displays two confronting, full-faced lions with semi-human visages. The left lion is rendered in taupe and gray-brown with pale pink details, while the right is dark brown to near-black with ivory features. The irregular ecru border displays linked square motifs in taupe, brown, and pale pink. A striped plain-weave finish completes one end. Originally woven as a cushion cover, or yastik.
