Vintage Turkish Anatolian Pictorial Rug

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. Two quizzical dark brown lions face one another across an open light beige-gray field. Their stylized facial features are delineated in ivory, golden yellow, dark blue, and red, lending the beasts a cartoonish appearance. The lions perhaps reflect southwestern Persian Qashqai influence. The single dark brown border displays small floating geometric motifs in red, ivory, blue, green, and ochre. Originally woven as a yastik, or cushion cover.
