A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. Signed “Gelil.” Two confronting standing tawny lions with full-face humanoid visages, upright picket-fence manes, and matching claws are set against a charcoal to near-black field. Details in coral red, black, gray-green, ivory, and pale yellow enliven the figures. The medium to dark brown, strip-style border displays small divided octagons in ivory, coral, pale blue, lavender, gray-green, and black. Originally woven as a yastik, or cushion cover.
