Vintage Turkish Anatolian Pictorial Rug (Pair: 1 of 2)

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. A visual pair to rug # 33448. The two-lion design is popular throughout much of Turkey. Here, two growling lions confront one another on a dark brown to near-black field. Both are rendered in straw, beige, and taupe, with red details; the left lion has a streaked pelt, while the right has a more uniform coat. The ecru-straw, strip-style border displays rows of small four-petaled medallions in dark brown. Originally woven as a yastik, or cushion cover.
