A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. A visual pair to rug # 33667. Against a pale golden-beige field, this small mat from the Persepoli Oriental rug shop in Ravenna, Italy, depicts a seated Persian dancer flying on a patterned carpet in dark brown, burgundy, and warm rust-brown. The inscription is rendered primarily in black, with a rust-brown initial “P.” The weave has short warp ends. The imagery playfully suggests that the shop sold flying carpets.
