Antique Caucasian Karabagh Rug

An antique Caucasian Karabagh rug. A crimson cochineal field displays a large central floral bouquet and four subsidiary corner floriated motives. The dark brown border has detached leaf and rosette elements.  Cochineal reds are almost always indicative of a Karabagh origin for Caucasian rugs. No other area uses this dye to such powerful effect.
