An antique Caucasian Shirvan Pictorial rug. This amusing, well-woven east Caucasian scatter features three cartoonish humans and an assortment of domestic animals including goats, horses, chickens, and a camel, all grouped around a tall central tree on a charcoal field. The ivory slanted leaf and calyx border is a feature of most Caucasian rug types, but the flip-flop carnation minors are more characteristically Shirvan. An inscription cartouche at the top provides information on the weaver along with the date. Pictorial rugs are a Shirvan specialty.
