A vintage Persian Malayer Pictorial rug. Two columns, each of four repeats of a vase and flowers flanked by two storks (or cranes) fill the ivory field of this village rug. The iconography of birds around a vase or fountain goes back to late classical antiquity. Colorful trees are pressed up against the inner field edges. The design must have originated in a printed textile. A few tiny details are piled in white cotton.
