Antique English Axminster Carpet

An antique English Axminster carpet. A sideways composition of huge, forked double acanthus leaves flanking a multi-floral bouquet essentially fills the cream and brown three part field of this antique high pile English rug. The design was conceived to be set parallel to a fireplace, say, rather than as a hallway filler. The exuberant pattern is probably early Victorian, bold without being in any way fussy.
