An antique French Aubosson rug. An elaborate wide picture-frame border of acanthus leaves and arabesques, scallop shell fans, and cartouches frames the oval, ivory medallion with a rose bouquet center and additional floral bunches at the cardinal points of the illusionistically molded frame. The carpet is tapestry (flat) woven and dates from the second half of the 19th century and is in the LouisXV –Louis XVI transitional style.
