An antique Indian Lahore carpet. This northern Indian well-woven town carpet is full of classical references: cloud bands, animal combats, cypresses, and prunus (flowering plum) trees and flying phoenixes, all on a deep cranberry ground around a small central motif. Bird pairs, possibly ducks, flank the border palmettes. The composition is not technically an allover, but it certainly reads that way.
