Antique Persian Afshar Pictorial Rug

An antique Persian Afshar pictorial rug. The red field displays two columns each of four lion-and-sun motives with reindeer (!) set between them. The rug is dated 1322 (1905). The ivory palmette and angular vine border is rendered in the Qashqai manner. Most lion rugs are Gabbehs, but this is a fully designed, relatively short pile piece.
