An antique Persian Bakhtiari rug. Rows of closely packed, offset hexagons completely fill the field of this southwest Persian village rug. Cypress trees, paired birds, rosette arrays and geometric flowers fill the panels, all in shades of mustard, light blue-green and dark brown. The dramatic wide ivory border alternates one-way palmettes and two types of forked leaves. Both nomadic and village weavers in the area employ honeycomb and square lattice (garden) layouts.
