A vintage Persian Nain rug. The production of Nain rugs in central Persia began in the late 1930’s. This example, like all Nains, is extremely finely woven on an all cotton ground. Most Nain rugs, as here, are in medallion designs with light grounds, short piles, and curvilinear patterns drawing on traditional Persian fine carpet traditions. The emphatic dark brown scroll around the open central cartouche is particularly inventive.
