An antique Persian Bibikabad carpet. The early 20th century rustic village carpet from the Greater Hamadan weaving area shows a variant on the popular “Vase carpet” pattern on the soft grey ground. The ivory amphora iris palmettes are set horizontally and the pattern is biaxially symmetric with two large, colorful central many-petaled palmettes set sideways. The ivory border is smaller in scale and displays somewhat ragged palmettes.
