An antique Persian Bidjar carpet. Goldenrod open lozenges decorate the dense Herati pattern abrashed slate field of this Kurdish city over size carpet with an exceptionally solid construction. The main border displays an interesting reciprocal of ivory and slate panels enclosing vases lollipop flowers, separated by convex red-brown slanted sections with internal racemes. The inner border features hexagons and snaky cloud bands while the outer shows a turtle palmette pattern. On this carpet, the design ingenuity is definitely in the border system.
