An antique Persian Mahal carpet. The milk chocolate field of this medium-coarse Sultanabad area carpet has three columns of large ragged palmettes and curved leaves organized around a double side-by-side cartouche center.. The pattern is big and there are no niggling small elements to intrude on the spacious display of the ground tone. This could be termed a ‘Sultanabad’ rather than a Mahal, and, in any case, it is a true antique.
