An antique Turkish Oushak carpet. This attractive west Anatolian workshop carpet artistically combines two design traditions. The field pattern of hexagonal tiles in cream, goldenrod, straw, rust, dark brown and buff, each enclosing a rosette or palmette, is taken from certain 17th century Kerman “Vase” carpets. The border of pentagonal mihrab arches with central trees of life is a repeat of Turkish village prayer rug patterns. This combination was especially popular with the OCM carpet company in the early 20th century.
