Antique Persian Bidjar Oversize Carpet

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. The abrashed, faded blue-grey and medium-slate field displays an irregular lattice of large lozenges defined by overlapping twig-like reserves in taupe and soft brown. Two large cogwheel rosettes and an open lozenge establish an implicit central axis. Large upright palmettes and smaller diagonal palmettes, rendered in ivory, sand, pale yellow, muted coral, rust-red, and powder blue, lend the composition a distinctive “Vase Carpet” character. The strip-style, faded coral-red main border features alternating palmettes and open tripartite medallions. The particularly attractive border tone and unusual pattern enhance the overall appeal.
