An antique Persian Lavar Kerman carpet. Lavar (Ravar) is a Kerman rug weaving satellite town and is well known for finer, allover pattern pieces. The peachy ground of this example has a pattern of multiple palmette types connected by bold and recessive arabesque trellises in a classic Kerman “Vase” carpet layout. Most of the multicolored palmettes are diagonal and visually mobile, but three fixed axes are subtly defined by vertically oriented palmettes. The “Vase” carpet is copied by many, but Kermans do it best.
