An antique Persian Mahal carpet. The rich, warm brown ground features a nearly complete five column allover pattern of symmetrized palmettes, ragged palmettes, short stems and lesser leaves. As in many cases, the pattern is unique to Mahals from village workshops in the Sultanabad area, and has no distinctive names. This medium coarse room size has a pale green border with long recurving leafy tendril segments, A marigold yellow accents both field and border.
