An antique Persian Mahal carpet. This nearly square Arak province rustic large carpet displays a reduced and compacted version of the classic Persian Harshang (crab) pattern of ragged palmettes, fringed rosettes, oblique ellipses and flower arrays, all detailed in ivory, rust, pale blue-grey and straw on the slightly abrashed graphite ground. The brick-brown main border features straight vine sections separating two sizes of palmettes.
