An antique Persian Mahal carpet. Could be called “Sultanabad”. The very slightly abrashed pale blue field displays huge ragged and petal symmetric palmettes, and rough leaves, in a subtle lozenge lattice constructed of leafy vines. Detail tones include teal, medium blue, buff, and sand. The red-brown border features layered palmettes and rosettes. The pattern is large-scale and spacious on this very attractive west Persian village room size carpet.
