Antique Persian Mahal Large Room Size Carpet

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The straw-yellow to pale golden-beige field displays a variety of smaller motifs, including soft octagrams, striped palmettes, broken vines, and loosely drawn palmettes in rust, salmon, coral, dark navy, muted blue, pale green, and brown. The characteristic dark navy, strip-style Mahal border features reversing palmettes and geometric floral devices. The composition is slightly unbalanced at the vertical ends.
