A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This red-ground village carpet features a nearly complete five-column allover pattern derived from the Herati design, with petal and oval palmettes, curled and curved leaves, and small rosettes. The distinctly unusual slate-colored border showcases palmettes, rosettes with cruciform centers, smaller rosettes, and a variety of fallen leaves. Overall, it is a well-drawn carpet.
